The 2nd International Seminar on Agricultural Development for Chinese Rural Revitalization Strategy was held in Shanghai

On November 7th -8th 2019, the 2nd international seminar on agricultural development for Chinese rural revitalization was successfully held in Crowne Plaza Shanghai Harbour City, Lin-gang special area, Shanghai, China. The seminar was co-organized by Lankuaikei Agriculture Development (Shanghai) Company Limited (LAD), Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) and Shanghai Horticultural Society (SHS).


The theme of this seminar is “accelerate modern agriculture by data and knowledge”. This seminar aimed to build a platform for agricultural related universities, enterprises, research institutions and local governments, discussing the development direction and opportunities of digital agriculture, sharing technologies and solutions for digital agriculture and creating a harmonious and win-win industrial environment.

(Seminar Highlights)

The seminar was chaired by Professor Yingjie Pan, director of LAD expert committee (formerly the rector of Shanghai Ocean University). Mr. Weihua Dong, Chair of the board of LAD; Professor Alfons Oude Lansink from WUR; Dr. Yongchun Zhang, deputy director of Forest and Fruit Tree Research Institute affiliated to Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Researcher Jian Liu, 802 research institute affiliated to SAST; Mr. Xin Li, deputy director of SAST; Mr. Zhiqiang Hu, mayor of Pudong Nanhui New Town People’s Government gave opening speeches for the seminar. Professor Alfons Oude Lansink, Professor Yingjie Pan, Professor Lanzhuang Chen, Mr. Jixu Tang and Dr. Haolv Shang made keynote speeches.

In the opening speech, Mr. Weihua Dong represents LAD sincerely wished all attendances would have a comprehensive and friendly information exchange during this seminar. Afterwards, Prof. Alfons Oude Lansink and Yongchun Zhang respectively introduced WUR and SHS in their opening speeches. Mr. Xinli and Jian Liu introduced the fruitful achievements of SAST and expressed their expectation of applying advanced space technology such as satellite telemetry to the agricultural field.

 

“Digital agriculture is the core and symbol of modern agriculture. Lin-gang special area warmly welcomes emerging agricultural enterprises and innovative enterprises in various industries.” Said by Mr. Zhiqiang Hu. He also indicated Lin-gang special area will provide more superior supporting policies, infrastructure and business environment for emerging companies such as LAD, which are innovative in the traditional industry and exploring the new digital era of Chinese agriculture development.

Prof. Alfons Oude Lansink gave a keynote speech entitled “Dynamic efficiency analysis of Dutch horticulture”. He evaluated the dynamic technical efficiency of Dutch greenhouse enterprises from the perspective of costs adjustment. The result shows that energy and agricultural material are the two inputs with the lowest utilization efficiency in the modern greenhouse. At the same time, high efficient modern greenhouse have great investment returns.

(Keynote speech, Lanzhuang Chen)

In the keynote speech about the current situation of digital agriculture in Japan, Mr. Lanzhuang Chen, Dean of Environmental Horticulture College of Minamikyushu University, compared the R&D capabilities and talent training in AI field between Japan, China and US. He pointed out that AI is an important technology for realizing digital agriculture, and training AI technical talents is the top priority.

In the keynote speech of Prof. Yingjie Pan, he introduced the “Basic Situation of Rural Revitalization Strategy Implementation in Shanghai”. He mentioned that in order to achieve realization of agricultural and rural modernization in Shanghai till 2022, there is still a lot of work to do. The key tasks include improving living condition, building “beautiful countryside”, launching rural revitalization demonstration villages, promoting rural land circulation, and optimizing agricultural industrial structure.

In the keynote speech of Mr. Jixu Tang, he introduced smart energy and its application. The actual application cases show that smart energy has great potential in saving energy costs. He pointed out that providing high efficient and low-cost energy for greenhouses on demand is important for smart energy development.

In the keynote speech entitled “Current Situation and Prospect of Digital Agriculture”, Dr. Haolv Shang pointed out that pointed out that digital agriculture includes four modules: real-time monitoring, information acquisition, information system and model simulation. He also used LAD experimental field base as an example to explain the application of digital agricultural technology.

(Highlights of sub-sections)

Compared to the first seminar in 2018, this seminar is larger, more professional in academic and more research fields were included. During the seminar, three sub-sections of “Greenhouse Horticulture”, “Digital Farming” and “Agricultural Supply Chain” were also held. Around a hundred experts and representatives from enterprises, institutions, organizations and government attended this seminar and discussed the challenges, opportunities and solutions for Chinese digital agriculture development.
